Are You “Excited” About The Baby? March 2, 2010

Ever since we found out that we were having a baby, friends and family have asked me whether I was excited about it. I ended up answering in the affirmative because that was the response expected of me.

Truthfully however, I have been more worried than excited. I believe that pure “excitement” comes from either being truly secure (e.g. professionally/financially) or from an utter lack of appreciation of upcoming needs.

So, over the last few months, I have been going about taking actions that have slowly replaced my worry with excitement. These actions include increasing my life insurance, starting a 529 plan for the baby’s college education, finding a larger apartment, getting some health tests done, and making some general lifestyle changes.

Knowing that I have done all that I could have to prepare for the baby has gone a long way in eliminating my worries. So, while it is still a little unnerving to think that I will soon be responsible for something without an “on-off” switch, I am finally feeling excited and truly happy about it.

The Taxi Ride to Midway Airport March 1, 2010

Unless you enjoy witnessing gang violence, when the taxi driver offers to take you to Midway airport via I-290, just say no! Stick to I-55 regardless of traffic.

For about a minute, I was worried about never getting to see my kid. Fortunately, the event featured only rocks and baseball bats.

Phew!!
