Patent Bar Prep - Day 39 February 22, 2007

Another slow day. All I did was go over the notes a couple times (about 40 pages) which I had taken down as I was going through the Kayton Chapters. I hadn’t started writing down the rules until I reached Chapter 9 so I have nothing for the first eight which cover all the 102/103/112 issues. Will go over those in the Kayton binders tomorrow.

As the exam draws closer, I find myself slowing down rather than working at a faster pace. E.g. today, I took almost 3 hours to talk and reminisce with an old friend. I think my brain needed a respite because I am actually less stressed about this.

The trick on this (as with any other) exam will be managing time, stress and fatigue. I will have 3.6 minutes per question for six hours. I think they have an optional break — which I don’t know if I will take.

I plan on going over the October 2003 exam tomorrow. If I have any patience left over, I will try and do April 2003 as well.

Not sure if I will skip school tomorrow night. I don’t think I will be mentally present even if I did go.

Anyway. That’s all for now. I sure hope I get past this beast.

As it turned out, I couldn’t get much done. That’s just how it goes with work and school sometimes. Even the best laid plans…
I did manage to go over some notes that I had taken as I was going through the Kayton chapters.
Oh well. Tomorrow’s another day.

Started with the April 2000 Exam. The exam seemed fairly easy to do (mostly because it is a lot easier to take a paper exam than one on a computer.) After doing the first 50 (Morning Session) questions, I checked my answers. When I got 46 of the 50 right, I was so ecstatic/euphoric that I almost had one of those “I.. have made FIRE” moments. But since I was inside a library, I decided to stay put.

You know what came next don’t you? Me and my “optimistic extrapolation” got out of hand. I quickly did the math and thought… hmm.. I am hitting a 92%, I can *so* pass this exam! Right…

As soon as I started the PM section, I got the first 3 wrong in a row. That’s probably the best thing that could have happened because it pointed out to me that I still need to refer to the MPEP and CFRs before making “educated guesses” on the exam.

So… I stopped at about Q30 of the PM session. and picked up again this morning. Woke up extra early to do this before work. Will be back later to tattle on myself.
