The Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association is pleased to announce our next dinner event which will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at The California Club, 538 South Flower Street, Los Angeles, CA

Join us as we hear from Mr. John Malcolm, Executive Vice President & Director of the Worldwide Anti-Piracy Operations for the Motion Picture Association of America.  This presentation will give us a behind the scene peek illustrating where counterfeited goods are made, technicalities of the actual seizure process, some legal difficulties, and some of the political difficulties and challenges on the global market.

This presentation is hands-on for illustrating the actual enforcement process, including actual pictures of some real seizure scenes and manufacturing sites of counterfeited products. Mr. Malcolm formerly held the position of Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, where his responsibilities included overseeing the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section, the Domestic Security Section, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and the Office of Special Investigations.

Mr. Malcolm is an honors graduate from Columbia College and Harvard Law School.  For seven years, Mr. Malcolm was an assistant U.S. Attorney in Atlanta, in the fraud and public corruption section.  He also served as an Associate Independent Counsel in Washington, D.C. investigating fraud and abuse at HUD.  Before rejoining the Department of Justice in 2001, Mr. Malcolm was a partner at the Atlanta law firm of Malcolm & Schroeder, L.L.P.  Please reply YES to this email or use the attached registration form to let us know you will be joining us.  We encourage you to invite your colleagues and friends to attend.

Taking the MPRE Exam this Saturday.

It doesn’t seem too intimidating after the Patent Bar. But, I should be studying for it more than I have been. Oh well… will try and get some work done on it after school tomorrow night.

CA Bar Results & Schadenfreude November 17, 2006

The results for the July 2006 CA Bar are now available online at http://members.calbar.ca.gov/exam/.

As the website states:

Members of the general public will be able to search or browse the entire pass list beginning on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 6:00 AM  (PST).

I am sure there are plenty of people (such as myself) who want to know whether their friends passed. I am sure there just as many who are simply being nosy or checking up on a certain snooty someone who they secretly wished would fail.
