No, I am not going to get the new iPhone… June 10, 2008

Just about anyone who knows me and my unhealthy consumerism has already asked so here goes: I am not buying the new iPhone and here’s why:
1) I’ve been disappointed by the price reduction once and I am not going to spend money on a toy that will be obsolete by thanksgiving
2) My current one works perfectly fine so there is no need to replace it
3) Given that I am (supposed to be) studying for the bar, its a good thing that its EDGE-based rather than 3G! The faster it works, the more time I will spend on it and
4) I don’t really use GPS (although I can definitely see how applications could be richer with location information).
It’s strange but I just don’t feel the urge/need to get it. I am pretty happy with the current one. But if you (especially you, Apa!) want to buy me one as a graduation present… :-)

those are petty excuses. you know you want it. and as far as reason #3 goes - how could you possibly spend more time on it: your pages load faster, you download e-mail faster, etc etc. here’s what i read on bbcnews.com:
“Opening a rich graphic and text page from the National Geographic website took 59 seconds on Edge which is part of the “old” iPhone architecture, while the 3G version took 21 seconds and wi-fi takes 17 seconds.” - BBC News.
thats 3x faster.
now go on, go buy it.
With (3) I meant that the better it works, the more time I will spend on it. Right now, EDGE is so frustrating that after a few minutes, I can’t stand it and I go back to studying :-)
