Sample Request for a Personal Reference for the Moral Character Application April 19, 2008

In case you need to request someone to be a personal reference for your Moral Character Application, here is what I sent out:

Hi <NAME>,

As you know, I am in the process of taking the California Bar exam. As part of this process, I have to complete an “Application for Determination of Moral Character” which requires five individuals to be listed as personal references.

With your permission, I would appreciate being able to use you as a reference who can speak to my personal character.

If you agree to provide a reference, you will receive a one page questionnaire which will take less than 10 minutes to complete. All questions can be answered by filling out “bubbles” and you will not be required to write any comments.

Please let me know if you would be willing to provide a reference for me.
