Safari Browser - Now on Windows June 11, 2007

I installed Safari’s beta version today and noticed a few things immediately: 1) Fonts seem significantly smoother (similar to “ClearType”) and “rounder” compared to IE and FireFox and 2) Pages do seem to be loading faster in Safari than they do in both IE and FireFox.

Ever since IE 4 was released, I have been a die hard IE fan. Regardless of any security holes, crashes or any other shortcomings, I simply liked IE. No amount of evidence, geek advice or nagging was sufficient to make me move from IE to anything else. Unfortunately, IE 7 has been a huge disappointment.

In search of a new browser, I moved to FireFox because I liked using the various extensions that it has. I am now primarily a FireFox user and will use IE only if necessary. In fact, I am wondering why I didn’t give in to FireFox earlier.

Now that Safari is out, I will see how it goes. Let me know what you think of Safari. I am not particularly happy with it on my Mac because a lot of pages (especially those with text input fields) simply don’t work right with it. Perhaps now that it is available for the Windows platform, it will gain the widespread acceptance that is required to motivate providers to make their web content Safari-friendly. For now, I will give Safari a try for a few days.
