Is Netvibes the new Octopus? June 3, 2007
Posted by atharkhan in : Personal, Tech , trackbackA few years ago, there used to be a site called Octopus.com. I found out about it from some list (maybe Red Herring’s?) of tech companies that would change the world. Octopus was my absolute favorite at the time because it allowed me to scrape information from various sources into a single start page. As I was reminiscing about it today, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are not one but several similar sites now (many featuring AJAX) which allow users to do the same thing. After checking out a few, I have decided that NetVibes (www.netvibes.com) will be my new Octopus.
Although I am sad that Octopus is gone, I am happy that the concept of aggregation/scraping and customizing/controlling how information is presented has caught on.

Don’t iGoogle and Live.com allow you to do the same thing pretty much?
Haven’t checked out iGoogle just yet. And I am pretty sure Live wont do everything that NetVibes does. But… will check them out.
Thanks!
