GrandCentral.com (One Number to Rule them ALL) March 16, 2007

Now this is a brilliant idea! It’s greatness lies in it’s simplicity.

Essentially, GrandCentral is a VOIP based service which allows you to have ONE phone number that rings all the numbers (e.g. work/home/cell) you specify. You can easily customize it by caller groups such as Work, Friends, Family etc. which can define which phones ring at particular times based on the identity of the caller. You simply have one number to give to everyone. Why didn’t I think of this?

Here is my one-line review of GrandCentral.com: Sign up. Don’t ask questions. Just do it.

Scribd (www.scribd.com) March 15, 2007

Scribd is being hailed as the YouTube for documents. It is essentially a flash based document repository. The idea is excellent and the end-product is visually appealing.

However, even ignoring the inherent Copyright issues, I think the basic flaw with Scribd is that it requires people to read. If everyone enjoyed reading as much as watching videos, would YouTube have become this much of a phenomenon? Would movies be eagerly awaited? Wouldn’t everyone just read the (readily available) book?

All that being said, I really do believe in centralized document repositories. I hope that Scribd makes it. I will definitely use it to post my law outlines, resume, etc.

How Can It Be? (JC Penney Commercial) March 15, 2007

I just heard new JC Penney commercial (titled “Calendar“). So with a quick google search, I found out that the song in the commercial is called “How Can It Be” by Forever Thursday.

Melanie Horsnell’s gorgeous voice and Elliot Wheeler’s stunning lyrics come together to create a track that is sweet, introspective and slightly whimsical. You can hear it at http://www.myspace.com/foreverthursdaymusic

Here are the lyrics:

I say, and so say I,
My morning thought it knew itself just fine,
Until, across the room,
It caught its first glimpse of my afternoon,
How can it be,
That these things live in me?

I say, and so say I,
My morning’s day,
seems nothing like it’s night.
My, night, so self-assured,
was all at sea when faced with dawn’s strange world

How can it be,
That these things live in me?
