Wikispaces Site: “Retired” March 5, 2007
Posted by atharkhan in : Tech , trackbackI have “retired” (deleted) my WikiSpaces site (atharkhan.wikispaces.com) and will be making that content available here shortly in a Wiki.
I have been testing both PHPWiki and TikiWiki and neither seem particularly visually appealing or user friendly. If it had been possible to host the software that runs WikiSpaces, I would have done it in an instant. WikiSpaces (like JotSpot) supports most WYSIWYG formatting. Unfortunately, WikiSpaces is a only a hosted solution. Besides, you have to pay a monthly fee to remove the distracting AdSense clutter.
I am most interested in making MediaWiki work. I am told that MediaWiki runs very slow on HostMonster unless you pay for a higher bandwidth account. If that is indeed true, I may have to stick with JotSpot… which kind of goes against the whole point of moving to HostMonster (which was supposed to allow me to consolidate all content in one place).
Oh, well!
If anyone has a suggestion about which Wiki to use, feel free to leave a comment. (Yes, I have already checked out WikiMatrix)
