Patent Bar Prep - Day 14 December 31, 2006

Today, I viewed videos for Chapters 11 and 15. This stuff was all about dates and time limits for petitions to make special, defer examination etc. I dont think I remember any of it at all. Maybe when I get to some practice questions, it will sink in. Didn’t do any questions at all. Calling it an early night because one of my friends just showed up.

Today, I only viewed videos. Similar to the concept of “muscle failure,” I wanted to keep at it until I just couldn’t stand it anymore. In about 9.5 hours, I was able to get through the videos (11-13) for Chapters 8, 9 and 10. The viewing time for these videos is probably 5 or 6 hours. However, due to the repeated and unintentional “zoning out,” I had to keep restarting some videos. I am pretty sure that only 10% of this stuff will stick in my brain. But, the good news is that now when I see a question that raises an issue related to the topics covered, I will recognize it.

I am realizing that a lot of questions that I was missing early on with the 112 and 102 topics were really related to stuff that they are covering now and will cover later. That makes me feel somewhat better. True, it wasn’t essential to knowing this new material in order to correctly answer all the questions I missed in the past. But, it would have been very helpful in eliminating obvious wrong answers. I hope I catch those errors when I review all the questions I missed.

Caught up (somewhat) on the practice questions. I got up to Q103 of Chapter 4 and then I started running into questions related to foreign filings and their priority dates. So, I stopped working on the questions and starting viewing the videos on Chapter 7 which deals with both Foreign Priority and Provisional Applications. Again, this material is not too complex but is a LOT to remember. Between the dates that the law changes, NAFTA, WTO etc. stuff, it seems overwhelming. Hopefully by the time I start getting to questions, this will have sunk into my poor brain.

I have about 80 questions left over for Chapter 4. Considering that school starts up again in 8 days, I might just focus more heavily on the videos rather than questions to get them out of the way. I think questions, being discrete, can be handled a few here and there over lunch & school breaks. But the videos really do have to be viewed at a stretch.

I was thinking of attending the upcoming classroom course by PRG in January. I thought it would help because a real person is better at keeping me awake than a video and they will probably have updated the content based on the changes made in October of this year to the MPEP. But, its about $800 on top of the $2700 which I have already paid. Plus, I might have to be in San Diego during the day for a couple of those days. So, I wont be able to do that. I will try and sit through these videos for longer periods of time over this weekend. I dont think I will be able to finish them all but I will try and get as far as possible.

So, thats it for today.
