Moving to a Mac - 1 September 13, 2006
Posted by atharkhan in : Review, Tech , trackbackSo my first impressions are: I can’t do much …and I don’t know why, but I love it! As with anything I suppose, everything is not perfect. Here’s why:
- Programs DO get “hung” and I have to do a “force quit.”
- It gets just as hot if not hotter. Especially around the keys towards the left edge of the keyboard.
- It is NOT faster than a comparable PC. I am sure you could argue this a million different ways but I dont see it as significantly faster just yet.
- The screen does not lay flat. I knew this one going in. What I didn’t know is that the same reflective screen that was pretty okay in the apple store was much worse at home (especially if you’re under a light.)
- The OS takes up more space on the disk than what I thought. A 60GB drive had only about 35GB usable which was kind of disappointing. Maybe there is some preinstalled junk/trialware I can get rid of. I have already removed Office.
- I have tried a few times and was unable to set up Mac Mail properly. I was attempting to follow instructions provided by Gmail but havent been able to do it just yet.
That being said, I am trying to be as objective as possible. It was after all my first day on the thing. There are a lot of cool apps preloaded — I just don’t know how to use them just yet.
If you have any tips, shortcuts etc. that helped you ease into using a Mac, please feel free to leave a comment.
Thanks!
