Buffalo Tech Nfiniti Wireless (WZR-G300N) prevents access to Google.com May 19, 2006

I have an interesting issue to report. My home router is a Buffalo Nfiniti (WZR-G300N). About 3 days ago, it started preventing me from accessing google.com and anything else with google.com in the URL e.g. gmail.google.com.

After a lot of troubleshooting, I narrowed it down to the router. I called Buffalo Tech today and found out that it is indeed an issue. They have had a similar issue with Comcast and have released a fix for it. Now, they are working on resolving the same problem for Cox subscribers.

As I understood it, an “improper vlan tag” was preventing Comcast subscribers from accessing Google.com as well as other sites. It might be the same issue with Cox as well.

Let me know if you have had this issue and what you did to fix it.

Thanks.

Yeah. The main reason I went for the Buffalo was that my friend told me they never needed rebooting. However, just this morning, a Buffalo Tech Support representative told me that the firmware wouldn’t be available for another month. I have had 2 generations of Buffalo products (802.11b & g)and other than poor documentation I cannot fault them. They have NEVER needed rebooting and have worked year in year out.

The Nfiniti is very new it may be worth hanging in at least until the next firmware release.

A good friend who is pretty technically savvy recommended Buffalo products. That’s why I got one. I think I am going to return it too. What do you recommend? The LinkSys was pretty flaky and needed to be rebooted all the time.

I had so many problems with the same device that I finally took it back for a refund. I am never buying a Buffalo product again.
