Surviving Stand Up March 17, 2006
Posted by atharkhan in : Humor, Personal , add a commentSo, I survived my Stand Up “Graduation Showcase.” I think I actually heard some applause too. The weird thing is that when I was up there, I couldn’t really hear people laugh or applaud. It was just a general sense of when to pause for it and when to continue with the shtick. It’s a very strange feeling to not be able to see people and to be so caught up in doing the set that stuff just fades away … suddenly youre up there on the stage… alone and you own it. Weird huh?
I was #13 of the 17 people doing stand up that night. A few forgot their lines and others were exceptionally good. I was so nervous that I had to physically leave the Improv club so I wouldn’t be psyched out by the other comics’ performances. I think also had to go to the bathroom at least 10 times … I was drinking way too much water because my throat would keep drying out.

I am still working on the lines and I havent been able to finish it up just yet. Still need a callback and a snappy ending. I haven’t even gotten to the point where I write my intro for the MC. I am thinking of using the first 10 seconds from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Mustt Mustt (Massive Remix Version) as the intro music.

The good news is that atleast the rest of the week should be “fun.” As soon as I get done with this stuff, I need to jump on my outlines and write a patent for the patent prosecution class…
