Volvo iPod Connector - Installation Costs $500! September 12, 2005

Now that the iPod connector for Volvo cars is available, I thought it might be something to consider. I called Power Volvo of Irvine to find out that the Parts cost $225. Not too bad I thought. Then the lady told me that it could cost upto FIVE hours of labor @ $100/Hour because it is still new to them. Total: About $700. Well, if its new to you, take a class! Dont ask me to fund your “professional development” and more importantly, my car is not your guinea pig!

So, I thought I would call Volvo of Orange County. Same thing. “It will be $588″ the guy on the end of the line tells me cheerily. “And that includes parts and labor” he adds as if that were a huge favor. Okay, its less than the $725 that Power wanted me to pay but not by a whole lot.

I am sorry, I love the iPod as much as the next guy. Heck, I even went out and got the nano because it was worth the $250 to me. This, however is just plain ridiculous. I am sure there is a law against gouging… or at the very least against having other people pay for the dealers’ inexperience.

I guess I will be using the Monster iCarPlay for a few more weeks while both these dealerships learn how to install the product.

What has your experience been? Did you get it installed? How much did it cost you?
