T Minus 8 Days, 17 Hours, 14 Minutes…. and… Houston, we have a problem! July 9, 2005
Posted by atharkhan in : Law School , add a commentI have been working on Pat Law and Crim Pro for the last 13 hours. I dont think I got a lot done. The work product that I have before me could probably have been generated in about 2 hours. I guess thats what happens when youre putting forth effort in terms of quantity rather than quality.
Well, at this point, quality almost seems like a luxury and the quest for perfection seems downright insane. But, you guessed it…. I am still trying to get there. Regardless of whether you know and understand whats in your outline, it has to look pretty right?
I am almost 3 quarters of the way with my Crim Pro case briefs and about half way with Patent Law. Its a long way to go and all I have is 8 Days, 17 Hours and 14 Minutes.
I guess its time to organize my calendar in 15 minute increments just like last year. Believe it or not, that whole newfangled “time management” mumbo jumbo actually works. Who knew!

Posted by atharkhan in : Law School , add a commentIts that time again… barely 10 days to go before exams. Time to (as Johnny from F4 would say) “FLAME ON!”
My first exam is on Patent Law. We have covered the basic sections of the Patent Law Code (100, 101, 102, 103, 104 and 112). The Exam is about 3 days after the last class…and yes you guessed it… its all inclusive. Usually a Patent Law exam is anywhere between 15 to 20 pages long. It gives you an over view of the invention, the parties competing for the patent, existing prior art etc. etc. Then you could be asked to do anything from a basic Patentibility Analysis (I wish!) all the way to Doctrine of Equivalents, Infringement etc. From what I can tell, this is going to be a painful exam. The reason I said this was because the Prof has spent a number of years as an Intellectual Property himself and takes a lot for granted that we as students dont seem to be able to grasp. Anyway, the good news is that next week, among the tons of cases will be my favorite “Amazon.com v. Barnesandnoble.com.” The famous “1-Click” Patent wars and how that came to a head. Some of the cool cases we went over for patent infringement were for springs on pinball machines, tags on eyeglasses and dimples on golf balls. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
The second exam is on Criminal Procedure or “Crim Pro” as most of the students call it. In Crim Pro, we have gone over the 4th, 5th, 6th and 14th amendments and their applications. Everything from electronic surveillance and Terry Stops to Miranda rights and the Right to an Attorney. I went into the class thinking I would not enjoy it. The only reason I signed up for it is because the Professor teaching the class is insanely good. He can make just about anything fun so needless to say I like Crim Pro a lot. The part that scares me is that he is known to be a VERY harsh grader. A guy in the class who has had the prof before said to me “I got Pam Anderson Grades.” “Huh? Pam Anderson?” I said. “Yeah, two Ds in his classes! Double Ds.” Clever… very clever… but right now I have plenty more to worry about.
On one hand, theres less than 10 days to study for the exams and on the other, F4 is out. Hmmm…. I guess I will take a “small” break and go watch the “First Family of Marvel Comics.”
Tune in next time for a peek into my screaming descent into exam hell.

They said, “We are afraid.”
“Come to the edge,” He said.
They came.
He pushed them… and they flew.
