Jet Lag sucks… but it should get better. July 27, 2005

Its past 6 AM here and I am wide awake. I have been trying to tie up some loose ends at work. The last last few days have been really hectic and I couldnt finish up all the stuff I had committed to my manager that I would. So, here I am trying to make good on my word.

I was also up reading a book. Its really strange to not have to read tons of pages every day. Today, I picked up a book because I thought it would be fun. Wow! Imagine that. I am reading a book which is NOT for school. Pretty interesting book — talks about how various civilizations came to be and why some might have done better than others in terms of survival. Its one of those books thats been on my reading list for a while and now I am finally getting to read it.

In a day or so, I am going to try my hand at sketching, painting and maybe pottery. There is an Art Tutor in the neighborhood who might be able to give me some intensive lessons so that I can finally do justice to the human form. I will hear from him sometime today…..I think. My brother knows a guy who is in the business of making clay urns. His factory shuts down in the evening and I am guessing that if the price is right, I might be able to get in there and try it too. Always wanted to do that in a real industrial facility with the wood fires going etc. Should be fun.

I am going to get some clothes stitched too. I have been drawing out some stuff that I think would work well with Jeans. I will cut up some newspaper and staple it in the shape that I want a tailor to cut it in. Usually that works okay for me because I dont really speak the trade language and its very difficult to explain what I want them to stitch.

Other than that, I will get some pointers from my dad on how to shoot 35mm film and slide film. He knows how to develop pictures so I might get to do that too. So much to learn from him. So little time :-)

Anyway, I am going to go and try to sleep now. Or not.

Testing - From Pakistan July 27, 2005

I am writing this while connected (at a blazing 44.6 Kbps) from my parents’ home in Karachi, Pakistan. Just a quick test to see how Blogger works on a slow connection.

Yes! There ARE faster connections available here. But, they dont seem to use the internet enough to justify getting one. So, it will have to be dial-up for me for the next 22 Days.

Patent Law down, Crim Pro to go. July 20, 2005

Made it past Patent Law. The exam was about 15 pages long I think. The scenario was very interesting but that was certainly not a 3 Hour Exam. If I really had to do that right, it would have taken me more like 15 or 20 Hours. There were multiple inventive entities, an issued patent being challenged for validity, the patentee was charging Contributory Infringement and Inducement, two patents were in an interference but were on hold because they were both being challenged by some prior art. Instead of the standard “question” this was a “library file” with emails, interview notes, patents and fact patterns and I was supposed to figure out what was going on. And, as if that wasnt enough, some of the art had greek alphabets for names which you cannot type inside ExamSoft. I have to say, the whole thing was a lot of fun but it really was not a 3 hour exam. I walked out with absolutely no recollection of what I wrote or how I did. The good news is that no one else did either so hopefully things will even out with the curve. I really did want to be the “CurveKiller” on this exam. We’ll see how that turns out when I get the grade.

The next one is Criminal Procedure. Another fun class. But, with over a 100 people in the class, that will be one competitive curve. And with that irritating mandatory “half the class must fail” rule, it will be an interesting experience.

I would stick around to share more of my whining with you but Conan is on TV and I am going to go watch it :-)
