Perspective….Hello!? June 28, 2005
Posted by atharkhan in : Humor, Personal , 2commentsI went to see a really good friend from work at the hospital today and spent a few hours with him.
The guy is such a wuss and really has no perspective! I mean, all he went through was a burst Appendix …. He was in some sort of “pain” for two days and then went to the emergency room where they put him under anesthesia for a few hours, made a few surgical incisions and removed it. After that a few stitches… maybe 20?… and he was done with it.
Big Deal! I on the other hand went through something MUCH more traumatic, painful and permanent– I got a traffic ticket! The Police Officer didn’t give me any drugs before writing the ticket! I had to take it straight!
His surgery scars will heal and he will be up and about in no time. My car insurance will suck my blood for this one for the rest of my life.
You hear that man? It could have been worse! You could have been issued a traffic citation. Now, quit your whining you big baby and get on with it. At least you’re saving on car insurance.
Segway - The Gyroscopic Icebreaker June 24, 2005
Posted by atharkhan in : Humor, Personal, Tech , 1 comment so farCommuting has never been this much fun! This week, I rode my new Segway Human Transporter to work every day. In fact, I wanted to ride the thing so bad that I would wake up earlier than usual just to get to work.
It was interesting to get pretty much the same reaction from everyone who saw it. The first thing they said was “You IDIOT!!” The very next sentence? “Can I ride it?” ha ha ha…
I guess I don’t care too much about whether people think its a “sensible” purchase or not. All I know is that I had promised myself last year that if I passed my first year in law school with decent grades, I would do something completely indulgent for myself.
I am still getting used to being stared at when I am riding this thing. I try not to make eye contact because it does look a bit dorky. This morning was funny. This big (and I mean BIG) guy with Tattoos saw me “gliding” down the street to work and gave me the hitchhiker thumb signal. When I got close to him, he asked if he could ride it. Sure, why not. He rode it around the parking lot next to Carl’s Jr. for a couple minutes while his two buddies (also tattooed Harley types) watched. It was funny to watch these biker looking guys giggling like kids.
I got to work around 9 am today and some of the engineers that i work with saw me on it. Man! That started the biggest “Segway Stampede” ever. It was so much fun… it was a bunch of guys riding this geeky looking thing and couldnt stop smiling. I think I must have answered “How fast does it go?” and “How long does the battery last?” about a few hundred times today. Still all in all it was a lot of fun.
I would ride it to work tomorrow too but I have to go somewhere with a friend at lunch time so I will have to drive my car. Come on. Two guys on a Segway? I dont think so.
Relativity June 23, 2005
Posted by atharkhan in : Personal , add a commentI met a friend for coffee around 7 PM today. We were talking about everything from work to capital punishment to law school. A short while later… it seemed like an hour at the most… I noticed this security guard walking by repeatedly. I couldnt figure out what “hint” he was trying to drop. After all it was only… wow!!.. 11 PM!
Four hours had passed by in about 45 minutes. Time sure flies when you are having an engaging conversation.
Like Einstein said, “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT’S relativity.”
