Google Blogger Terminated May 12, 2005

I just remembered… a friend found my blog today and asked me if I knew about the google blogger who got let go recently. That was a “shot heard around the world” I guess. Yes, I have heard about him.

I feel bad for the guy. I am sure that he was very excited to be working at Google and in this excitement, he probably said things that a publicly traded company wouldnt want out there. (Click here for the full story)

I guess Google didnt have much of a choice either. They couldnt exactly condone his blogging. Any company listed on a stock exchange has to be very careful about what it’s employees say to other people. If someone working inside Google said “theres some really cool stuff in the works” he/she could simply be talking about a new project or even some elaborate prank that he/she was about to play on someone. Someone outside the company however could read this to mean that the company was on the verge of inventing something new that could drive the stock price up and blow his life savings on it. Thats the kind of effect a company wouldnt want. I mean, if someone out there said something that could cut your 401K in half, would you let them?

If you’re looking for his original posts, you can find them here
Anyway, the guy has been hired at Plaxo which is good. I am happy that he is employed. Plaxo is a pretty cool company and I have used their product. Very cool concept. Check it out at www.plaxo.com

For now, this is about it :-)

Survived Torts… on to Contracts May 12, 2005

Okay so I suvived Torts. It was brutal. 90 minutes, 5 Parties, every conceivable cause of action from Products Liability to Defamation but only 10 fingers to type it with. Days like this, I wish I could type a 100 WPM. I type somewhere around 50 I think but I know people who can go as fast as 120. Can you imagine? 120!! That would come in handy on a law exam. Anyway, enough about typing speed. I think that my analysis was fairly decent compared to last time. I think I am finally getting how to handle law exams. Being an Engineer had always helped me project utility bills for the next year, calculate the height of the Sears Tower, figure out how fast a car was going by. Where it really hurt me was being a law student. I am so used to being conclusive and arriving at the “only right answer” that it has taken some adjusting to. I am getting better now. Now, instead of “Yes” or “No,” I try and work my way to “Maybe” which is considered to be the best possible answer in an exam. That used to be very upsetting to me. Could you imagine watching a movie without an ending? Thats what Law School Exams are like.

Anyway, I am done with Torts so now its on to Contracts. I have reset the end point on my clock and now its T minus 4 days, 17 Hours and 44 Minutes….. and counting…
